Kitchener Population 2024

Kitchener is a city of Ontario province. Kitchener is Canada’s 10th most populated city with an estimated population of over 480,000 people.  Kitchener is also the 4th largest city in Ontario province after Toronto, Ottawa and Hamilton. The city is neighbouring cities of Waterloo to the north and Cambridge to the south, with size of 136.89 km2 (52.85 sq mi).

Based on our research, Kitchener population will reach 508,793 by end of 2024.The calculation is based on the average growth rate of 1.01% over last 12 years since 2011. We believe using the recent years’ figures (see the table in next section) will make the estimation more accurate. The estimation will adjust once Statistic Canada publishes census data.

Lot of workers was moving to Kitchener to take advantage of employment opportunities there, which contributes to the population growth. On the other hand, some people might prefer city with smaller population. The population has creased by 23,720 people or 5.3% between census year of 2011 and 2016.

Demographics of Kitchener

According to Canada census, Kitchener is an extremely diverse city, with a huge number of ethnic and cultural groups living there. Major ethnic origin are: Canadian (23.7%), German (22.2%), English (21.0%), Irish (16.4%), Scottish (16.2), French (9.0%), Polish (5.5%), Dutch (4.3%), East Indian (3.6%),Italian (3.3%). Major minority groups include the following: 5.0% South Asian, 2.1% Chinese, 4.1% Black, 3.0% Southeast Asian, 0.7% Filipino, 2.6% Latin American.

The religious makeup of Kitchener is: No religion (15.6%), Christian (78.85%), Islam (2.24%), Buddhist (0.6%), Sikh (0.7%), Hindu (1%), and Jewish (0.5%). Catholicism is the largest religious denomination in the city.

From age prospective, Children under age five accounted for 6.0% of the resident population of Kitchener, compared to 5.5% in Ontario, and 5.3% for Canada overall. 11.7% of the resident population in Kitchener had reached retirement age, it is smaller compared to 13.6% in Ontario, and 13.7% in Canada. The median age was 37 years, which younger than province average(39 years) and national average (40 years).

  1. Kitchener and Waterloo are considered “twin cities” which are often referred to jointly as “Kitchener–Waterloo” (K–W), although they have separate municipal governments.
  2. Of the cities that are now part of the Waterloo Region, Berlin, now Kitchener, has the greatest German heritage due to the high rates of settlement of German-speaking immigrants in this region.
  3. By gender, 49.2 percent of the population was male and 50.8 percent female.
  4. The land on which Kitchener was built in 1784 was a 240,000-hectare area offered to the Six Nations by the British as a reward for their allegiance during the American Revolution.
